Futures, options and commodities
- Futures and options (F&O): pre-open from 2:05 pm to 2:15 pm, then normal trading from 2:20 pm to 3:40 pm. Trades can be modified until 3:50 pm.
- Commodity derivatives on NSE: 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm.
What it means for you
- Trades are real. NSE says every trade in the session results in settlement obligations. If you buy, you pay in full, and if you sell, you must deliver the shares, just like on any other day.
- The window is short. Normal trading lasts 70 minutes, and prices can move sharply on low volumes. Use limit orders if you trade.
- Check your broker's app. Brokers set their own cut-off for placing orders, and some let you queue orders before 2:05 pm.
- SIPs do not run on a Sunday. A mutual fund SIP due that day is usually processed on the next business day, as per your fund's rules.
- If you do not trade, nothing changes. Muhurat trading is a tradition, not a requirement.
From 7 December 2026, the closing auction on normal days moves to 3:30 pm to 3:40 pm. Read about the new closing times.
